Bidding Workshop

Tuesday mornings, 9:30-11:30 AM, at at Temple Reyim, West Newton
6 classes, Jan 24 - Feb 28

Did you ever learn a new convention or a system, then have it never come up? How do you get a chance to practice what you learned? It made sense when it was explained, but without some rehearsal, did you really learn it?

This course will be 80-90% practicing bidding hands. Each week the hands will be based on a particular common theme in bidding - a common situation, convention, or problem. Players will bid each hand, then review the bidding and learn the "best" way to bid the hand.

This course will be designed to work both for Standard American and 2/1 Game Force partnerships. A knowledge of your system and some duplicate experience is assumed.

The precise topics to be covered will be determined by the participants, but here are some examples:

  1. The 1NT response to an opening bid
    (including preference auctions)
  2. Other one level responses and continuations
(including New Minor Forcing and 4th Suit Forcing)
  3. 2/1 auctions
  4. 2C opening bids
  5. Major suit raises - the principle of fast arrival, the law of total trumps,
    (Jacoby 2NT and Bergen raises)
  6. Minor suit raises, including inverted minors
  7. Slam bidding, including cue bidding and 1430
  8. Passed hand bidding
